Heritage and Environment

Many heritage and environmental organisations across North Yorkshire and York could not function without the army of volunteers that lend their time, enthusiasm, expertise and interest to so many projects and areas of work, including:

If you are interested in volunteering in heritage and environmental projects, contact your local Volunteer Centre to see what is available locally.  You don’t need any skills or experience to get involved, but if you do have specific skills that you’d like to share with others, let the Centre know, as they may have ideas about organisations and projects that would value your input.

If you are an organisation that is looking to recruit volunteers to help to run services, or for specific projects, contact your local Volunteer Centre to discuss how you can open up your opportunities to a wider audience.

Skipton in Bloom

Craven Volunteer Centre supports the Skipton in Bloom group by not only recruiting volunteers to work on its conservation projects, but also by providing representation on its organising committee. Dee Pollitt, Craven Volunteer Centre Manager, says:

”the Skipton in Bloom committee is useful for us to be involved with because a lot of people come to us who are interested in conservation work or gardening, either as individuals, or in groups. Through Skipton in Bloom we can keep up to date with which projects are needing help, and where a team effort might be needed. This is particularly useful for employee volunteering projects.”

Recent projects undertaken by the group have included the planting up of 3 large narrow boat planters alongside the Leeds-Liverpool canal basin, mass spring bulb planting events, improvements to the bus station with floral displays, and the re-design of the Cenotaph garden.
