Volunteering and the Statutory Sector
Volunteer Centres across York and North Yorkshire broker volunteers into a wide range of statutory settings, including:
Big Society:
Volunteer Centres have the experience and are well placed to support public sector service delivery and the Big Society agenda. There is potential for volunteers to contribute more to statutory organisations, through both increased quantity of volunteering, and increased quality of volunteer management and retention.
Services can benefit from investing in training and support for their volunteer managers.
Sustainable Communities:
Volunteer Centres contribute to the Sustainable Community Strategy in each district. without exception, Volunteer Centres contribute to all major themes within each district’s strategy, either by providing direct services, or by providing essential volunteering services to enable other organisations to deliver their services.
Volunteer Management Training is being rolled out across both the statutory and voluntary sectors, through the Volunteer Management Improvement Programme. The purpose of the project is to improve the recruitment, support, and retention of volunteers that help to deliver services.
